Overview
- School staff alerted a School Resource Deputy around 1:30 p.m. Monday at Righetti High in Santa Maria, California.
- The student refused to comply and resisted, leading to a struggle in which the on-campus deputy sustained minor injuries.
- Deputies searched the student’s backpack and found multiple marijuana vapes and a loaded .22 caliber revolver.
- The student was taken to a local hospital for medical evaluation and, after clearance, was booked into Santa Maria Juvenile Hall on firearm, resisting, and underage marijuana possession charges.
- The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District said safety remains the top priority and it is coordinating closely with law enforcement.
