Overview

  • Components for the drilling rig arrived July 29 at the cleared site between Reichling and Rott to begin the week-long setup overseen by the Bergamt Südbayern.
  • The operation will repurpose a well sealed in 1985 by inserting concentric metal casings and pipes to ensure complete shielding from drinking water.
  • Energieprojekt Lech Kinsau 1 GmbH, backed by MRH Mineralöl-Rohstoff-Handel GmbH (80%) and Genexco GmbH (20%), is managing the exploration under federal mining law.
  • If successful, the four-week bore could lead to a 10–15-year production of 400–500 million cubic meters of gas, sufficient for up to 15,000 households.
  • About 35,000 residents and environmental associations led by Greenpeace Bayern continue to oppose the project over climate commitments and risks to local water and tourism.
