Rieti Bus Killing Probe Widens After Threat Banner Seized

Intercepts plus eyewitness accounts underpin charges now validated by a judge.

Overview

  • Police seized a banner reading “Hide yourselves, snitches, we know who you are” at the PalaSojourner and searched the Curva Terminillo clubhouse, which authorities say is an intimidation attempt against witnesses.
  • The arrests of Kevin Pellecchia, Manuel Fortuna and Alessandro Barberini were confirmed, with a judge ordering pre-trial detention for risk of flight, reoffending and evidence tampering.
  • Questura recordings captured Pellecchia saying the stone was “the pointiest one,” which the judge cited alongside accounts of exultation and a planned ambush on the Rieti–Terni road.
  • Investigators are assessing a possible fourth participant, a 51-year-old identified as S.M., and are reviewing the roles of additional people believed to have been present, while devices and CCTV are examined and witnesses re-interviewed.
  • Two large stones recovered from the bus are under forensic analysis, including DNA checks considered unlikely to succeed due to the rock’s porosity, as preliminary autopsy findings attribute death directly to the thrown stone.
