Overview
- A private service began at 12:00 at Manchester Cathedral after a public cortege set off from the Cheshire Cheese in Gee Cross, pausing at Harehill Tavern, the New Inn for a dove release, Hatton’s Gym, Hyde Town Hall, Betta Bodies and the AO Arena before continuing to the Etihad Stadium.
- Thousands lined the streets to applaud and sing as the procession passed, with a Reliant three-wheeler from Only Fools and Horses leading in a nod to Hatton’s favourite sitcom.
- High-profile mourners included Tyson Fury, Liam Gallagher, Wayne Rooney, Amir Khan, Frank Bruno, Barry McGuigan, Paddy McGuinness and Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff, alongside figures from Manchester City and the wider sports community.
- Inside the cathedral, son Campbell Hatton delivered a tribute as he and Hatton’s brother Matthew served as pallbearers carrying the coffin.
- Greater Manchester Police reiterated that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the 14 September death, and a Ricky Hatton Foundation plus separate campaigns are raising funds for mental-health causes linked to his legacy.
