Rick Pitino wore a custom-made replica of Lou Carnesecca’s iconic sweater during St. John’s first game since the legendary coach’s death at age 99.
The tribute took place at Carnesecca Arena, where a pregame ceremony included a moment of silence, a video montage, and chants honoring Carnesecca’s legacy.
St. John’s rallied in the second half to defeat Kansas State 88-71, with standout performances from Zuby Ejiofor and other key players.
Pitino symbolically placed the sweater at center court after the game, declaring it would rest there in honor of Carnesecca’s memory.
Carnesecca’s storied career included 526 victories, 18 NCAA Tournament appearances, and a Final Four run in 1985, cementing his status as a basketball icon.
