Ricin-Plot Accused Beaten Inside Sabarmati Jail's High-Security Wing

An FIR has triggered parallel probes into a possible security lapse at the high-security unit.

Overview

  • Jail officials said three undertrial inmates from the same barrack assaulted Dr Ahmed Mohyuddin Syed around 7 am, reportedly using a belt or strap.
  • The accused suffered severe eye and facial injuries and was taken to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for treatment.
  • Sabarmati Jail SP Gaurav Agrawal said an FIR has been registered, the motive remains unclear, and questioning of inmates is underway.
  • Gujarat ATS personnel visited the prison to examine how the attack occurred and to interview staff and prisoners.
  • Syed was arrested earlier this month in an alleged ISKP-linked ricin and poison plot, with ATS reporting seizures of pistols, cartridges, and castor oil and alleging ties to Pakistan-based handlers.
