Richfield Man Charged After Video-Recorded Molotov Attack on Home With Children Inside

Police cite security video alongside shoe-print evidence to tie him to four arson attempts.

Overview

  • Police arrested Delmar Barney, 38, on Sunday and booked him without bail on charges that include two counts of attempted murder, three counts of aggravated arson, eight counts of aggravated assault, and four counts of protective order violation.
  • Security footage from about 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 5 shows a suspect lighting a Molotov-style device and throwing it through a bedroom window, igniting the room and waking the occupants.
  • Investigators say the same home was targeted on Sept. 11, 15, and 22, with shoe-print impressions matching AND1 footwear, a warm vehicle hood at the suspect’s residence, and search warrants helping link all four incidents to Barney.
  • According to police, the attacked bedroom was occupied by someone with a protective order against the suspect, and the house has been deemed unlivable due to smoke and fire damage though no physical injuries were reported.
  • The victim, identified as Katey Barney, publicly urged others to seek help, and local advocates highlighted resources available through the New Horizons Crisis Center serving five central Utah counties.
