Richard Sherman Granted Deferred Prosecution in Washington DUI Case

The court suspended the DUI charge pending completion of a two-year treatment program under Washington’s deferred prosecution law.

Overview

  • A King County District Court judge approved the defense request on Sept. 23, placing the case on hold contingent on compliance with court-ordered terms.
  • Sherman acknowledged his conduct stemmed from a substance use disorder and agreed to two years of treatment, as required to qualify for deferred prosecution.
  • The agreement includes five years of probation and will count as a prior offense in any future DUI prosecution under state law.
  • Prosecutors say the case arose from a Feb. 24, 2024 stop for speeding on I-405, where Sherman declined a breath test and later registered about 0.11 BAC via a blood test, above the 0.08 legal limit.
  • He continues working as a Thursday Night Football analyst, and he previously pleaded guilty in 2022 to misdemeanors stemming from a 2021 incident.
