Richard Darbyshire, Voice of Living in a Box, Dies at 65

  • Former bandmates Marcus Vere and Anthony “Tich” Critchlow announced his passing in a social-media statement and lauded his talent.
  • He was the founding lead singer and guitarist of the Sheffield-formed group, which scored a worldwide hit with its 1987 debut single Living In A Box.
  • He left the band in 1989 over label-driven artistic differences and later released a 1994 solo album, wrote for Lisa Stansfield, Jennifer Rush and Level 42, and ran songwriting workshops in London.
  • Living in a Box reformed in 2016 without him and now tours with Bryan Chambers as frontman, and he is survived by his wife, vocal coach Sonia Jones.
