Richard Darbyshire, Original Living In a Box Frontman, Dies at 65

No cause of death was disclosed in the family’s confirmation to the BBC.

  • Bandmates Marcus Vere and Anthony “Tich” Critchlow paid tribute, calling him an "incredible talent" and a "pure craftsman."
  • He led the Sheffield-formed trio to a 1987 breakthrough with the self-titled single that hit No. 5 in the UK and entered the US Top 20.
  • He left the group in the late 1980s following record-label changes, later releasing the 1994 solo album How Many Angels and writing for artists including Lisa Stansfield, Jennifer Rush and Level 42.
  • He had been running songwriting workshops in London, is survived by his wife Sonia Jones, and the band now tours with vocalist Bryan Chambers after reforming in 2016.
