Rhode Island State Police Probing Ex-Ponaganset Teacher After Former Student’s Complaint

Detectives confirm an active case coordinated with the attorney general.

Overview

  • State police say they opened the inquiry in early October into alleged inappropriate conduct by a former Ponaganset High School teacher and that the probe continues with the attorney general’s office; tips can be directed to the Special Victims Unit at 401-764-5549.
  • The former student, who graduated last spring, filed an affidavit this month and provided photos, videos and messages, and WPRI identified the teacher as Alisha Crins, 39.
  • The complaint describes flirtatious texting that escalated to kissing and sexual contact in a parked car when he was 17, as well as lingerie images sent at 17 and nude material after he turned 18.
  • Police documents say the teacher acknowledged flirtation, sexualized messages and sending images and denied sexual contact, with one account noting she said they shared a single kiss and that plans to have sex after he turned 18 were not carried out.
  • District leaders say the teacher no longer works for Foster-Glocester, and a school committee member is pressing for an independent Title IX review as administrators cooperate with police and no criminal charges have been announced.
