Rhode Island Man Pleads Not Guilty in Alleged Kidnapping of 75-Year-Old From Pembroke Restaurant

A judge ordered him held without bail pending an Oct. 6 dangerousness hearing.

Overview

  • Prosecutors identified the suspect as Michael J. Guerrero, 36, who faces charges including carjacking, kidnapping, indecent assault and battery on a person 60-plus, assault with a dangerous weapon, and threat to commit a crime.
  • Authorities say he posed as a valet at the Pembroke 99 Restaurant after hours, drove the woman toward Rhode Island, claimed he had a gun, demanded lewd acts, and fled after she tried to escape at an intersection in Providence or Johnston.
  • The victim returned to Massachusetts and reported the incident to Pembroke police the next day, according to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
  • Investigators say they identified Guerrero using surveillance footage, tips from employees at nearby restaurants, and records showing he used a rideshare app that night.
  • Officers arrested Guerrero in Providence on Sept. 24 and extradited him to Massachusetts on Sept. 25 before his Sept. 29 arraignment, where he pleaded not guilty.
