Overview
- A federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment charging 37-year-old Carl D. Montague with threatening to kill President Trump and with interstate communications of threats.
- The charges stem from a profanity-laced Truth Social post on June 27 that also targeted Attorney General Pamela Bondi and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
- Investigators traced the post to Montague’s account, located him in Providence on June 30, and recorded his admission that he made the threat while intoxicated, deleted his Truth Social account, and had no weapons or intent to act.
- Trump Media and Technology notified the U.S. Secret Service the night of the post, prompting a multiagency probe by the FBI, the Secret Service and Providence police.
- He is represented by the Federal Public Defender’s Office and could face up to five years in prison if convicted under federal law.
