Rhode Island Couple Identified After TBM-700 Crash on I-195 in Dartmouth

Investigators are assessing severe weather conditions alongside the absence of a filed flight plan.

Overview

  • The single-engine Socata TBM-700 went down on the grassy median near Exit 19 around 8:15 a.m. on Oct. 13 and caught fire.
  • Thomas, 68, and Agatha Perkins, 66, of Middletown, Rhode Island, were pronounced dead at the scene; a motorist struck by debris was hospitalized with injuries not considered life-threatening.
  • Flight-tracking shows the aircraft departed New Bedford Regional Airport about 8:10 a.m. and crashed minutes later during a coastal storm with heavy rain and 30–40 mph wind gusts.
  • State police said no flight plan or passenger count was filed with the airport, and federal investigators from the NTSB and FAA are leading the probe.
  • Wreckage was removed on Oct. 14, partial lane closures on I-195 were lifted later that day, and the plane is registered to Easton Air LLC with reports of a planned trip to Wisconsin.
