Rhineland-Palatinate Clears 12 Parties for March Landtag Election

A brief appeal window runs until 17 January before candidate lists are published.

  • The approved contenders are SPD, CDU, Greens, AfD, FDP, Free Voters, Die Linke, Tierschutzpartei, Volt, ÖDP, BSW and the Partei der Humanisten.
  • BSW and the Partei der Humanisten will appear on the ballot for the first time.
  • The Landeswahlausschuss rejected Bündnis C, Werteunion, Team Freiheit and Die Basis for not meeting statutory requirements such as valid party status or sufficient supporting signatures.
  • According to the state election authority, Die Basis failed to submit the required 2,080 supporting signatures.
  • Rejected groups may appeal to the Rhineland-Palatinate Constitutional Court until 17 January, with candidate names and the 52 constituency nominations to be posted shortly and ballot order set by parties’ prior second-vote results.
