Overview

  • The five-day "Woche der Justiz" invites the public to observe live civil and criminal proceedings, expert talks and facility tours across courts including Rockenhausen and Koblenz.
  • All 56 ordinary courts in Rheinland-Pfalz have implemented the electronic case file system since September 2024, with 453,575 eAkten recorded and 337,795 closed by June 1, 2025.
  • Multiple AI applications are being tested or deployed, including the eManuel assistant, Codefy for automated file structuring, jurisKI database and beck-Chat, alongside a VR-based witness simulation tool.
  • The justice system employs around 8,500 staff members—among them 1,400 judges and prosecutors—but has seen increasing competition to recruit young legal professionals.
  • Plans for a new JVA Zweibrücken facility aim to allow mothers to serve sentences with infants up to 12 months of age, pending a 2027 construction start.
