Robert F. Kennedy Jr. revealed he is being investigated for allegedly decapitating a whale carcass and transporting its head across state lines in the 1990s.
The investigation was prompted by a letter from the National Marine Fisheries Institute, which Kennedy received shortly after endorsing Trump.
Kennedy's daughter, Kick, had recounted the incident in a 2012 interview, describing how her father used a chainsaw to cut off the whale's head and drove it from Massachusetts to New York.
The Center for Biological Diversity Action Fund has called for the investigation, citing potential violations of the Marine Mammal Protection Act, the Endangered Species Act, and the Lacey Act.
Kennedy, who has previously faced backlash for other controversial actions involving dead animals, claims the investigation is part of a broader effort to target political opponents.
