• The award goes to the Consorzio Santomarco—led by Webuild (60%) with Ghella, Impresa Pizzarotti & C and Seli Overseas.
• The package delivers 22 km of double track on the Cosenza–Paola/San Lucido link, with roughly 17 km in twin-bore tunnel and 5 km on the surface.
• The design adds nine bridges and two rail viaducts, including a 350‑metre crossing of the A2 motorway and a 205‑metre span over the Settimo stream.
• A new station is planned at Montalto Uffugo near the Cosenza portal to serve local communities and the Rende university hub.
• The existing single-track Santomarco tunnel will be decommissioned after completion, with construction employing up to 1,500 people as the wider TEN‑T corridor effort progresses on adjacent lots.
