Overview
- The RFEF board approved on August 11 moving the jornada 17 fixture to the Hard Rock Stadium on December 20, 2025 and formally submitted the request to UEFA.
- Under FIFA’s International Match Regulations, UEFA must rule on the relocation by November 30, followed by reviews from CONCACAF and the U.S. Soccer Federation.
- FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta and Villarreal CF leadership have backed staging the match in the U.S. as part of LaLiga’s strategy to grow its North American market.
- David Aganzo and the Asociación de Futbolistas Españoles, along with several team captains, have criticized the process and demanded detailed logistics, legal coverage and revenue-sharing guarantees.
- If ultimately approved, the game would be the first LaLiga regular-season match played outside Spain, overcoming failed attempts in 2018, 2019 and 2024.
