Rev. Kevin R. Johnson Named Senior Pastor of Historic Abyssinian Baptist Church

Johnson, founder of Dare to Imagine Church, will take over following a national search and internal controversy.

Johnson will officially begin his role in mid-July.
He succeeds Rev. Calvin O. Butts, who led the church for 50 years.
The appointment follows a gender discrimination lawsuit and transparency concerns.
Abyssinian Baptist Church is a landmark institution in the Black church community.
Johnson previously served as an intern and assistant pastor at Abyssinian.
