Reuters/Ipsos Poll Finds GOP Preferred on Immigration, Crime and Economy

The late-September survey asked which party has the better plan across 11 issues, not vote intention.

Overview

  • Republicans were preferred on immigration 40% to 22% and led Democrats on crime by 20 points.
  • The GOP also held double-digit advantages on the economy (34%–24%) and foreign conflicts (35%–23%).
  • Democrats were favored on the environment and women’s rights, led on health care by nine points, and edged the GOP on respect for democracy by two points.
  • Forty-two percent approved of President Trump’s immigration agenda, and his overall approval stood at 41%, down one point from earlier this month.
  • The poll, conducted Sept. 19–21 among just over 1,000 adults with a margin of error of about three points, also found smaller GOP leads on gun policy and political extremism and an edge on corruption (27% to 21%).
