Retired Air Force Intelligence Officer Sentenced to 3 Years for Hoarding Classified Documents

Robert Birchum, a former U.S. Air Force intelligence officer, unlawfully possessed and retained over 300 classified documents relating to national defense.
Birchum served 29 years in intelligence and worked with classified information for Joint Special Operations Command and Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
Birchum knowingly removed classified files, including over 30 marked "top secret," from authorized locations and kept them in unauthorized places like his home.
Two documents on Birchum's thumb drive contained information on NSA capabilities, methods, and targets' vulnerabilities.
Investigators found no evidence Birchum distributed the classified material.
