Restored GDR Express Train SVT Görlitz Completes First Factory Test Run

The volunteer team says the successful run paves the way for acceptance trips, crew training, then a Q2 return.

Overview

  • The four-car unit ran its first works test between Halberstadt and Blankenburg and was later seen at Wernigerode station.
  • Project leaders plan further test, acceptance and training runs with the aim of carrying passengers in the second quarter.
  • Electrical and brake faults uncovered last year had paused progress but have been addressed to enable line testing.
  • The overhaul is being carried out by VIS in Halberstadt on a unit leased from the DB Museum in Nuremberg, supported by about 80 volunteers.
  • After re-entry to service, the group intends to operate roughly 40–50 special and charter trips per year to fund ongoing maintenance and inspections.
