Respawn Ending Apex Legends on Original Switch on Aug. 4 as Support Moves to Switch 2

Respawn says the change reflects a push for a higher‑quality experience on newer hardware.

Overview

  • Apex Legends will become unplayable on the original Nintendo Switch on Aug. 4, 2026, when Season 30 begins, and that version will no longer connect to servers.
  • Season 29 is the final update for the original Switch release before service ends.
  • Beginning Aug. 4, Apex Coins will no longer be purchasable on the original Switch, and any existing balances can be used before the cutoff and then accessed on Switch 2.
  • All progress, purchases, and cosmetics tied to EA accounts will carry over to Nintendo Switch 2 as well as to PlayStation, Xbox, and PC versions.
  • Support for Apex Legends continues on Switch 2 and other platforms, with Respawn offering no specific reason beyond focusing on evolving content and technical quality; some Switch players have voiced frustration.
