Overview
- The ship got underway on October 3 after several days held in port due to an outstanding Ministry of Defense authorization tied to the collaboration agreement.
- Directed by hydrographer Silvia Romero of the Naval Hydrographic Service, the team includes about 25 Argentine scientists plus technical operators, with invited contributors from France and Ecuador.
- Researchers will use multibeam mapping, CTD and rosette sampling, a moored oceanographic buoy and surface drifters, and the ROV SuBastian to explore roughly 200 to 4,000 meters depth.
- Live coverage will stream on the Schmidt Ocean Institute’s YouTube channel through late October as the vessel surveys off Río Negro and Chubut.
- Building on a first leg that drew more than 18 million views, specimens and data from this campaign will be processed in Argentine laboratories and at the Bernardino Rivadavia natural sciences museum.
