Overview

  • Volunteer rescuers from VRA Rescue NSW discovered the body of the missing 26-year-old in Black Creek shortly after 11 am on Wednesday, about 450 metres downstream from the stranding site.
  • The passenger and a 27-year-old driver became trapped on Old North Road at Rothbury on Saturday evening when their Mini Countryman stalled in rapidly rising waters.
  • The recovery concluded a five-day multi-agency search involving local police, the NSW SES, Marine Area Command, the Rescue and Bomb Disposal Unit, the NSW RFS and more than 2,300 volunteers.
  • Since late last week, emergency services have responded to over 2,500 flood-related incidents and carried out 39 flood rescues across the Mid North Coast, Hunter and New England regions.
  • The Bureau of Meteorology forecasts further rain and rising river levels that could cause dam spill-overs and additional flooding downstream.
