Rescuers Free Deer From I-75 Barrier and Jackson-Area Fence in Separate Michigan Incidents

Back-to-back Michigan cases show how technical teams handled wildlife emergencies without reported injuries.

Overview

  • On Monday, a four-point buck became wedged in a roughly one-foot gap between concrete barriers separating I-75 lanes in Auburn Hills after a reported vehicle strike near Lapeer Road.
  • A motorist alerted Auburn Hills police shortly before 2 p.m., prompting a response that closed lanes in both directions for nearly an hour during the extrication.
  • Oakland County’s Search and Rescue Team used a rescue truck with straps to slowly lift the deer and untangle its hooves before freeing it.
  • Deputies said the buck was bruised but otherwise OK, and Oakland County Animal Control examined the animal, transported it to Bald Mountain Recreation Area, and released it.
  • In a separate incident Friday in Spring Arbor Township, Michigan State Police troopers calmed a deer with a jacket and used a floor jack to pry an iron fence and free it, a rescue captured on MSP bodycam video.
