Rescue Teams Locate Four of Eight Workers Trapped in Telangana Tunnel Collapse

Ground-penetrating radar identified four individuals trapped under debris, but their chances of survival are described as remote.

  • Eight workers, including engineers and operators, have been trapped since February 22 following a roof collapse in the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel in Nagarkurnool, Telangana.
  • Rescue teams have located four individuals using ground-penetrating radar; they are trapped 5-8 meters beneath debris near the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM).
  • Efforts to rescue the workers involve over 500 personnel from 11 specialized agencies, including the Army, Navy, and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
  • Challenging conditions, including water, slush, and the need to dismantle parts of the TBM, have complicated the rescue operation, now in its eighth day.
  • State officials have indicated that the chances of survival for the located workers are slim, and operations continue to locate the remaining four individuals.
