Reports Say India Test-Fires K-4 SLBM From INS Arighaat to 3,500 Km

  • Defence sources report the missile was launched in the Bay of Bengal off Visakhapatnam under the Strategic Forces Command.
  • The Defence Ministry has issued no formal confirmation of the test.
  • This was described as the second K-4 launch from INS Arighaat following prior pontoon-based trials, moving the system through its validation cycle.
  • The nuclear-capable, solid-fuel K-4 has an estimated 3,500 km range and a payload of about two tonnes, and was developed by DRDO with production by Bharat Dynamics Limited.
  • Analysts say the range enables deterrent patrols from the Bay of Bengal, as India expands its SSBN fleet with additional boats expected to join service after further missile tests.
