Overview
- Repolling was held at 23 polling stations in Bagh district’s LA-15 and LA-16 and ran from 8am to 5pm on Saturday, Aug. 15 with vote counting starting after polls closed.
- The stations were originally postponed on Aug. 10 when polling staff did not arrive and unrest disrupted voting, prompting the Election Commission to withhold results for nine stations in LA-15 and 14 in LA-16.
- Unofficial tallies before the Aug. 15 voting showed PPP leading in LA-15 by about 1,700–1,800 votes and PML-N ahead in LA-16 by roughly 3,225 votes, making the small number of postponed ballots potentially decisive.
- The Election Commission issued notifications declaring winners in neighboring constituencies LA-14 and LA-17, but the LA-17 result has been formally challenged by a PML-N candidate which keeps top-line outcomes contested.
- Authorities said police and other security forces were deployed to ensure a peaceful vote, and the disputed repolling could affect which party controls closely fought seats as the multi‑phase AJK contest continues.
