  • Emergency services established a precautionary cordon and evacuated nearby homes along with the Great Park Community Centre hosting a children’s club.
  • Newcastle City Council set up a rest centre at Newcastle Racecourse in Gosforth Park and implemented road closures to support displaced residents.
  • An Explosive Ordnance Disposal team confirmed at around 10:30 p.m. that the item was a non-viable replica grenade.
  • Once the device was assessed as safe, the cordon was lifted and families were able to return to their homes by late Friday night.
