Overview
- On July 4, Isle of Wight Crown Court handed 26-year-old Callum Hickman a 14-month prison sentence for dangerous driving during a high-speed chase last August.
- Hickman was disqualified from driving for 43 months and must pass an extended driving test before any future licence reinstatement.
- Prosecutor Tim Devlin told the court that Hickman refused to stop a flagged Citroën C3 in Whippingham, triggering a pursuit that reached speeds up to 90mph on Medina Way.
- CCTV and dashcam recordings showed Hickman veering into oncoming traffic, colliding with vehicles and damaging street furniture before abandoning his car near the Curry’s roundabout.
- Judge James Newton-Price described the chase as “terrifying” and pointed to Hickman’s 41 convictions across 125 offences to justify the custodial sentence.
