A man has been arrested and charged after a crime spree on Wednesday that involved the assault of a woman, the sex assault of a teen girl, and an attempted bank robbery inside a Vancouver office building.

Overview

  • The 62-year-old suspect first assaulted a 58-year-old woman in an office building at Cambie Street and West 41st Avenue before confining and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a public washroom while armed with a knife.
  • He then attempted a bank robbery on the ground floor of the same building and was taken into custody by Vancouver police around 5:40 p.m. on May 28.
  • Court records show Field was on probation for a previous sexual assault conviction when he carried out the latest crimes.
  • Vancouver police had designated Field a high-risk sex offender in 2022 after he failed to return to a halfway house following his statutory release from Kent Institution.
  • B.C. Attorney General Niki Sharma has called for Criminal Code reforms to strengthen measures against repeat offenders in light of the case.
