Repeat Hate Crime Suspect Held Without Bail After Queens Subway Assault

Prosecutors highlighted his history of six prior anti-Muslim attacks in arguing to keep him detained

  • On June 17, Naved Durrni allegedly confronted a 55-year-old hijab-wearing woman on a Queens-bound E train at the 75th Avenue station and demanded to know her faith before repeatedly punching and kicking her
  • The victim sustained fractures to her nasal and orbital bones along with bruising and swelling and is receiving treatment at a local hospital
  • Durrni was arrested a few blocks from the scene on June 18 and arraigned on June 19, when Judge Michael Katz ordered him held without bail on hate crime assault and aggravated harassment charges
  • He has six prior arrests for anti-Muslim hate incidents and was convicted of second-degree aggravated harassment in 2022 for a related 2021 attack spree
  • He is scheduled to return to court on Monday as the NYPD and the Queens District Attorney’s office continue their prosecution
