Rep. Stefanik Files Ethics Complaint Against Judge Howell Over 'Inappropriate' Speech

Stefanik alleges the judge's remarks during a recent speech constituted partisan statements, election interference, and improper extrajudicial statements.

Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) has filed a complaint and called for an ethics investigation into U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell, who has overseen multiple cases related to the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection and former President Donald Trump.
The complaint alleges that Judge Howell engaged in judicial misconduct during a recent speech at a Women’s White Collar Defense Association gala, which Stefanik described as 'highly inappropriate'.
Stefanik alleges that Howell's speech contained partisan statements and election interference, and made improper extrajudicial statements while criminal cases are pending.
Judge Howell has presided over former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani’s defamation trial and has overseen grand jury probes into former President Trump.
Stefanik has previously launched an ethics complaint against New York Supreme Court Judge Arthur Engoron, who is overseeing a civil fraud case against Trump’s business.
