Rep. George Santos Faces Expulsion Vote Amid Fraud Charges

In a Defiant Move, Santos Files Resolution to Expel Rep. Jamaal Bowman

  • Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) faces an expulsion vote from the House of Representatives on Friday, following a damning House Ethics Committee report and multiple federal fraud charges.
  • Santos has been accused of inflating campaign finance reports, unemployment benefit fraud, and using campaign funds for personal purchases, including Botox, trips to Las Vegas and Atlantic City, N.J., and OnlyFans, a subscription-based platform primarily used for adult content.
  • In a defiant press conference, Santos called the expulsion efforts 'bullying' and 'theater', and vowed to fight back by filing his own resolution to expel Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.), who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of setting off a fire alarm inside a Capitol Hill office building.
  • Santos would be the first lawmaker to be ousted in the House in more than two decades and the first who has not been convicted of a crime or fought for the Confederacy during the 1861-65 U.S. Civil War.
  • Despite the controversy, Santos has refused to resign and has maintained his innocence, stating that he is fighting to defend himself and dispel each accusation.
