Rep. Eric Swalwell Claims Victimhood Over Intelligence Community Abuses

Swalwell, once targeted by a Chinese spy, alleges his personal data was subpoenaed by the Trump administration.

Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell claims he is a victim of the American intelligence community’s abuses, stating he was targeted by a Chinese influence operation and had his cell phone data subpoenaed by the Trump administration.
Swalwell made these comments during a Judiciary Committee markup hearing for the Protect Liberty and End Warrantless Surveillance Act, a bill aimed at reining in the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and shutting backdoors allowing the government to purchase Americans’ data from technology firms without a warrant.
Swalwell was reportedly targeted by a Chinese spy, Fang Fang, who helped him fundraise and placed an intern in his office as part of a larger Chinese influence and espionage scheme.
Swalwell was removed from the House Intelligence Committee by former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy in January, following a heated confrontation outside the House chamber.
The House Ethics Committee concluded its investigation into Swalwell's relationship with Fang and chose not to take action against him, finding that what was alleged was not substantiated.
