Tim McGovern, an Oscar-winning VFX artist known for his work on the 1990 sci-fi classic Total Recall, has died at the age of 68.
His wife, Reena NeGandhi, announced his passing on social media, revealing that he died in his sleep.
McGovern was a pioneer in the digital effects industry, having started his career with the movie Tron in 1982 and later becoming a founding member of Sony Pictures ImageWorks.
He served on the Visual Effects Society board for nearly two decades, contributing significantly to its global expansion and receiving the VES Founders Award last fall.
McGovern had been working on a film and a novel, which his wife now plans to complete in his honor.
