Renowned Slovak Climber Dies in Himalayan Crevasse Fall

Ondrej Huserka fell while descending Langtang Lirung after a historic ascent of the mountain's eastern face.

The accident occurred on October 31, 2024, as Huserka and his Czech partner Marek Holecek were descending from their successful climb.
Huserka fell into a crevasse after his rope snapped, and despite Holecek's efforts to rescue him, he succumbed to his injuries.
Holecek stayed with Huserka for four hours trying to save him, but adverse weather conditions hindered any external rescue attempts.
This marked the first successful ascent of Langtang Lirung's eastern face, a feat previously accomplished only in 1978.
Huserka was celebrated for his mountaineering achievements worldwide, including notable climbs in the Alps and Patagonia.
