Overview
- Peruvians aged 60 and over can now request a DNI marked “No caduca,” removing future renewal requirements and receiving preferential attention at RENIEC offices.
- Since August 28, RENIEC issues only the DNI electrónico 3.0, which includes a cryptographic chip, QR code and roughly 64 security features for stronger identity verification.
- Blue and yellow DNIs remain valid until their printed expiration and will be accepted for voting in 2026 if they are current, with no penalty for keeping a valid older format.
- Reported costs are S/30 for the conventional DNI and S/41 for the electronic version, with processing commonly around 10 business days and payments available through Banco de la Nación or Págalo.pe.
- A free DNIe 3.0 campaign on September 25 in Breña and Carmen de la Legua offers first issuance, renewals, duplicates and address updates for minors and adults 60+, with online pre‑registration required and limited slots.
