Renfe Introduces Tiered Train Fares From July 1

Renfe will swap pandemic free rides for age-based subscriptions designed to boost off-peak ridership through targeted pricing.

Overview

  • Renfe began selling new monthly Cercanías and Rodalies passes for €20 for adults, €10 for travellers aged 15–26 and free for under-15s, all valid from July 1.
  • Media Distancia monthly subscriptions will offer a 40% discount for adults and a 70% reduction for young travellers born between January 1, 1999 and December 31, 2010.
  • The revamped 10-trip tickets are non-nominative, priced by zone and nucleus, and carry a one-year validity from purchase.
  • Children born between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2025 will continue to travel free under the new “Infantil” category.
  • Some passenger groups have criticised the delayed tariff announcements and significant price disparities between key routes.
