Renfe Ends Avlo on Barcelona–Madrid on Sept. 8 as AVE Takes Over

Renfe attributes the change to a bogie fissure detected in Talgo S106 trains.

Overview

  • All services previously sold as Avlo on the corridor will run with AVE-103 trains, keeping the same schedules and frequencies.
  • Customers holding Avlo tickets for dates after September 7 will be rebooked onto AVE with the same price and better on-board conditions.
  • New ticket sales from September 8 will be for AVE services, which carry higher fares than the former Avlo offer.
  • Renfe withdrew five Avlo S106 units after a July inspection found a fissure in a bogie component, with four sets based on Madrid–Barcelona and one extending to Figueres.
  • The reorganization applies only to the Barcelona–Madrid route, with no changes announced for other Renfe corridors.
