- Funding is split into €420 million for works already in execution or project design, up to €490 million for sites in study with about €300 million expected to be used, and €295.6 million for an Industrial Facilities Improvement Plan that is 25% executed.
- Presented at Madrid’s Fuencarral site by Transport Minister Óscar Puente, the facility is set to become Spain’s largest workshop dedicated to public-service trains.
- The plan covers modernization of 60 workshops nationwide and includes energy-efficiency measures such as solar panels, regulatory adaptations, and upgraded train wash tunnels and tooling.
- Site allocations highlighted include Sagrera (€20m), La Sagra (€20m), Almería (€40m), Irún (€30m), Aranjuez (€70m), Fuencarral (€49m), Móstoles (€51m), Alcalá de Henares (€70m), Santander (€20m), Málaga (€40m), Murcia (€40m), and Valencia (over €15m).
- High-speed maintenance facilities also serve private operators like Ouigo and Iryo under regulatory rules, generating about €10 million a year in rental income for Renfe.
