Renfe and Spain’s Transport Ministry Launch €1 Billion Maintenance Plan for 2025–2030

The program is designed to cut time trains spend in workshops by 29%, improving service availability.

Overview

  • The package allocates €420 million to projects in execution or detailed design, up to €490 million to sites under study, and €295.6 million to an industrial facilities improvement program with 25% already delivered.
  • Ten new workshops are confirmed across the network, with up to twelve additional sites under evaluation and officials indicating roughly six of those are likely to advance.
  • Three new parts logistics centers are designated for La Sagra (Toledo), Venta de Baños (Palencia) and Villaverde (Madrid), including an over €8 million, 10,000 m² facility in Venta de Baños plus conversion of the old workshop.
  • Immediate works include the nearly operational Fuencarral II high-speed facility in Madrid (about €100 million, 18,900 m²) and a €3.21 million expansion in Valladolid to enlarge storage and add an external wash hall.
  • The overhaul supports maintenance of 335 new commuter trains arriving from 2026 and introduces digitalized, automated, and energy‑efficient processes such as real-time monitoring, in-track inspection and solar installations.
