Remains of Missing Virginia Boy Identified After 20 Years
Forensic genome sequencing confirms identity, new charges anticipated in ongoing investigation.
- Remains of Logan Nathaniel Bowman, a 5-year-old boy who disappeared in 2003, have been positively identified using forensic genome sequencing.
- The remains were found in a trash can in a wooded area of Galax, Virginia, last year by a man who had recently bought the property.
- Logan's mother, Cynthia Davis, and her then-boyfriend, Dennis Schermerhorn, were charged in connection with his disappearance in 2003. Davis was convicted on second-degree murder charges, while charges against Schermerhorn were dismissed due to lack of evidence.
- Forensic genealogy company, Othram, was able to develop a full DNA profile and identify the remains as Logan's.
- The Carroll County Sheriff's Office announced that the investigation is ongoing and new charges are anticipated.
