Overview
- On August 3, 2024, a 28-foot aluminum boat capsized 16 miles west of Homer, Alaska; four passengers were rescued but David Maynard, 42, his wife Mary, 37, and their sons, Colton, 11, and Brantley, 8, remained missing.
- The U.S. Coast Guard conducted sonar searches and suspended operations within 24 hours after failing to locate the Maynards.
- In April 2025, Support Vessels of Alaska, Vision Subsea and Benthic Geoscience Inc. offered sonar and remotely operated vehicle technology for a renewed search of Kachemak Bay.
- Search teams found the vessel in 180 feet of water in early May and divers recovered three sets of human remains from the sunken boat on May 27 and 28.
- The recovered remains are undergoing autopsy and identification at the State Medical Examiner’s Office while recovery teams continue to look for additional remains.
