Overview
- A local resident found skeletal remains east of Salt Flat Road on Sept. 8, and DNA testing by the University of North Texas Center for Human Identification confirmed on Sept. 23 that the remains were Jason Landry.
- Investigators said the bones provided no clear information on cause or manner of death and that they found no immediate sign of foul play.
- Landry vanished after his car was found crashed and abandoned on Salt Flat Road near Luling on Dec. 13, 2020, with clothing and personal items scattered nearby and initial searches failing to locate him.
- The Texas Attorney General’s Cold Case Unit led a multiagency effort over nearly six years that included the Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office, Texas DPS, Texas Search and Rescue and volunteer search teams.
- Landry’s family has been notified and asked for privacy, and authorities said the identification brings closure while the Cold Case Unit continues the investigation and looks for any remaining evidence that could explain what happened.
