Remains Believed to Be Travis Decker Found Near Washington Campground, DNA Confirmation Pending

DNA testing will determine whether the discovery ends the months-long manhunt for the Army veteran accused in his daughters' suffocation deaths.

Overview

  • Human remains were located in a wooded area south of Leavenworth during a focused search coordinated by the U.S. Marshals Pacific Northwest task force with local partners, officials said.
  • Sheriff Mike Morrison said the remains were severely decomposed and dispersed in a manner consistent with animal activity, and no cause of death has been announced.
  • The scene is being processed with assistance from the Washington State Patrol crime scene response team before laboratory identification is conducted.
  • Authorities said the remains were found about 0.74 miles from where the girls' bodies were discovered near Rock Island Campground on June 2.
  • Decker, 32, was charged with three counts of first-degree aggravated murder and three counts of first-degree kidnapping after forensic testing found only his DNA on plastic bags and cable ties recovered with the victims.
