Overview

  • The June 10 strategic cooperation agreement tasks Reliance Defence with locally producing the System Vulcano 155 mm precision-guided munition under the Make in India II initiative.
  • A fully owned greenfield facility in the Watad Industrial Area of Ratnagiri, Maharashtra, will underpin production with an annual capacity of 200,000 artillery shells, 10,000 tonnes of explosives and 2,000 tonnes of propellant.
  • Diehl Defence will supply key technology and system-level expertise while more than 50% of components will be sourced indigenously.
  • Reliance Defence projects up to ₹10,000 crore in revenue from the joint venture as it aims to rank among India’s leading private defence exporters.
  • The collaboration advances New Delhi’s broader goal of meeting a ₹50,000 crore defence export target by 2029 and strengthening self-reliance in critical ammunition systems.
