Rekha Gupta, Bhagwant Mann Rally in Tarn Taran Ahead of Nov. 11 Bypoll

Parties frame the Nov. 11 vote as a verdict on governance in a seat vacated after an AAP lawmaker’s death.

Overview

  • Delhi chief minister Rekha Gupta campaigned for BJP nominee Harjit/Harjeet Singh Sandhu, accusing AAP of failing on drugs, public safety and debt management.
  • Gupta alleged Arvind Kejriwal and other AAP leaders were directing Punjab’s government from outside the state and questioned a withdrawn land-pooling plan and alleged sales of public land.
  • During her visit, Gupta offered prayers at Tarn Taran’s Darbar Sahib and later visited Thakurdwara Temple, with Delhi minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa accompanying her.
  • Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann urged support for AAP candidate Harmeet Sandhu, accusing Congress and SAD of decades of ‘looting’ and highlighting 58,962 government jobs he says were given without bribes.
  • Polling is set for November 11 with results due November 14, filling the seat left vacant by the June death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal.
